How I work
I believe psychotherapy is most effective when it is a collaborative effort in self-understanding. For me, this means meeting each young person where they are and taking the time to build a therapeutic relationship that is safe and trusting so that we can explore what might be underlying certain thoughts, emotions, perceptions and experiences that might be creating difficulty.
My work is informed by a psychoanalytic approach. This means we take time to think together about emotional experiences and patterns that may not always be immediately clear. The therapy is client-led, meaning I conduct sessions following what feels most meaningful for the client rather than working to a fixed agenda. This tends to involve a more reflective and exploratory way of working rather than directive.
Young people seek therapy for many different reasons. I have experience working with concerns such as anxiety, low mood, relational difficulties, questions of identity, challenges around self-perception and body image, stress related to academic or occupational demands, difficulties linked to social media use and online engagement, the impact of past or current experiences, and periods of transition or uncertainty, among others.
If you would like to better understand whether this way of working may feel helpful, you are very welcome to get in touch. An initial meeting offers an opportunity for us to begin to think together about your experiences and to consider whether this way of working feels appropriate and potentially of help.
